A Lot’s Been Happening. Here’s An Update.
There is a lot going on in Health Freedom Land and, frankly, I have not had time to write for several days because of our heavy travel and lecture schedule. But I wanted to keep you posted on the developments on the Health Freedom Front.
First, the good: Rico and Jerri Martinez worked diligently in Southern California to arrange a 2 week speaking tour in Southern California which included visits with company owners who did not believe in the reality of Codex at the beginning of our conversations but sure did at the end of them … AND vowed to help us in this battle, despite the disinformation they had heard from their trade groups that Codex was no problem at all. The tour included consumer lectures at health food stores, a house party of interested and influential women, a national radio show (Erskine Overnight) and a local one, discussions with store owners, etc. Busy is hardly the word for it!
And those were the scheduled appointments and meetings! A series of unexpected and important meetings will take us farther than we thought in very interesting ways. For example, Steven Finger, whom we met by accident, is a man with a mission. He wants diabetics to understand and treat their disease as efficiently and healthfully as possible. A Type I diabetic who takes no insulin because of his nutritional, herbal and supplement regimen, he realized as soon as we started talking that the products he and his fellow diabetics need for a healthy life will disappear under Codex. We have joined forces and you will be hearing much more about Steve and his creative solutions to health freedom challenges.
On October 27, I had the opportunity to address the Membership Meeting of the American Academy of Environmental Medicine.
The AAEM is an outstanding group of physicians who understand clearly that health cannot co-exist with the contamination of food, along with the absence of high potency nutrients to prevent, treat and cure diseases. That is why they have passed a resolution of support for the Natural Solutions Foundation and the Revised Vitamin and Mineral Guideline! (By the way, if you are looking for a physician who is not only well-trained, but conscious of all of the dimensions of health, go to AAEM.com and click on their “Referable Physicians” tab.)
That, by the way, is an excellent way for you to build support for the Draft VMG! If you belong to a professional organization, a food co-op, a club, a town council, a church, a country club, a hospital auxiliary, a club or organization of any sort, local or national, your group can pass a resolution of support for our work and for the Revised VMG, too. Why? Because if we have popular support we have what they call “traction” in Washington DC. Popular and professional support will help make this strategy a reality so that we can replace the deadly Vitamin and Mineral Guideline ratified by Codex with a healthy, nutritionally sound one. Does your group count? Absolutely. If you have questions about how to get your group to support health and health freedom through the Revised Vitamin and Mineral Guideline, send me an email at info@healthfreedomusa.org. I will get back to you quickly. Time is very much of the essence here. And don’t forget that DSHEA is still under significant attack. Please take action to protect the law that gives us access to high potency, freely available nutrients and herbs: DSHEA. And, while you are on our website, please sign the Citizen’s Petition even if you have signed it before since it has been revised and therefore you can add your signature to it anew!
I am very pleased to tell you that Jim Turner, of Citizens for Health, presented our Draft VMG to a Health Freedom Meeting in Minnesota and received strong support for it from these folks, too. Group support is a powerful way of building the support to help get this through Congress and protect our vitamin and mineral access here while providing leadership internationally to make DSHEA the international standard.
After I spoke at the AAEM meeting in Tucson, we flew back to San Francisco where I addressed the National Association of Nutrition Professionals at a meeting hosted by Bauman College. My talk, which was the featured event of Friday Evening, was called, “Neutracide” (a term created by Dr. Bauman, a man of great wit, wisdom and warmth) which refers both to the death of a profession (Nutrition) but to the death of populations as well. The lecture was filmed and is being made into a DVD which will be available shortly so you can share it with your groups, health food stores, friends, etc. We had not budgeted for the several thousand dollars that making this so I am asking you, our friends, to contribute the $2500 which this wonderful information-sharing took will cost. If you are able to give us $1000 or more toward this film, I will send you 10 autographed copies of the DVD to share with your Congressmen, friends and suppliers. Please help. I will let you know as soon as this unexpected asset is ready!
That was an unexpected pleasure on top of a remarkable gathering of conscious, committed and warm men and women committed to clean food and health in a relationship that takes up forward into the best science and backward into the deepest knowledge that we have about the relationship between eating and health.
But wait, there’s more! During our travels in Southern California the National Coalition of Organized Women, Eileen Dannemann, and I were discussing Natural Solutions Foundation’s plans to attend the 2 day FDA hearing in Washington on the over-medication of children with psychoactive drugs. (I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist with long experience in drug-free treatment). She very generously suggested that I take her place on the program which I have agreed to do. I will be addressing the FDA Hearing on the afternoon of November 2, 2005. I will make my comments available to you but the main point I will be making is that without freedom of thought, there is no meaningful freedom of speech. Psychoactive medication is making meaningful thought impossible for larger and larger numbers of children since drugs which have never been tested for long term safety in developing brains, are being used to numb and dumb children via initiatives like the dreadful “teen screen”.
Next month, General Stubblebine and I will be attending the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Food for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) in Bonn, Germany. Just as we brought you up to the minute information from Rome, we’ll do the same from Bonn. Is our presence important to you there? Then please consider supporting our work. This California/Arizona/California/Washington trip was tremendously expensive: hotels and planes and cars and food are not free, even for activists. Was it worth it? Absolutely, to us. We believe that it is worth it to you for us to be on the ground on your behalf and that you will continue to help us fight this war by donating to the Natural Solutions Foundation. This is an expensive battle: the tickets to Bonn will cost about $1500, our modest hotel about $1000 and food costs are higher than they are here in the US. We need your help.
We also need your input. Some of you may remember that we are developing www.EatSafeEatSmart.com, a reliable source where you can purchase GMO-free, organic foods and products in many categories. The site is nearly ready for launch. Please take a look at it, tell us what you like about it and what you don’t. Then we hope that you will recommend GMO-free, organic, safe, smart personal care products, foods, snacks, vitamins and minerals, cleaning products, etc. which you know about and love. To list an item, we will need a letter from the manufacturer stating that it is GMO free and organic. I am really looking forward to your input since this site is meant to serve you!
Thanks for your continued interest and support. I urge you to share this information widely with your friends and neighbors!
Yours in health and freedom,
Rima E. Laibow, MD
